Christmas Crafts Snowflakes
This activity doesn’t require a lot of skill or a lot of money; however, it does take some creativity and time. I like this activity because it allows some freedom with design.
You will need: Elmer’s glue, Q-tips (30-60) however large you want to make your snowflake will determine how many you will need, waxed paper (about 18 inches per snowflake), and glitter
1. Put the waxed paper down on your working surface to protect your table. It will also allow you to freely remove your finished product. Using your Q-tips, you will design how your snowflake will look. It is okay to cut them in half, if needed, to create the snowflake you want. As a rule of thumb with these Christmas crafts snowflakes, you should have the swab ends meet to create corners. They will stick together better.
2. To make your snowflake look more realistic, you may want to arrange your Q-tips by threes or sixes. In nature, water molecules freeze this way.
3. When you have completed arranging the Q-tips to your liking, you will need to put a small puddle of glue at every Q-tip connection. Make sure you use sufficient glue or it won’t stay together. Elmer’s glue dries clear, so don’t worry if it looks like your snowflake will lose its shape. The hardened glue actually gives off a better snowflake feel.
4. Before the glue hardens, this is the time to shake the glitter over the snowflake. To apply glitter in other areas besides the Q-tip joints, you can add more glue where you would like to have glitter.
5. Make sure you let all the glue dry before you try removing the snowflake from the wax paper. This will actually take a lot longer than you think to dry, maybe several hours. With the cotton ends needing to stick together is my guess.
6. As you wait for your Christmas crafts snowflakes to dry, you may want to consider making more. You can try a variety of sizes.
7. When everything is completely dry, you will want to be very gentle as you remove it from the paper. If you notice any weak places, you will want to put the snowflake back down and add more glue. Unfortunately, you would have to wait again for everything to dry again. You could use a hairdryer to speed up the process.
8. If you want to hang your snowflakes from the ceiling, you can use fishing line. Or if you want to create an ornament, you can use white (or a color of your choice) ribbon.
Christmas crafts snowflakes are fun to make, even though there is a little bit of wait time for them to dry. I like creating several of these and putting them on my ceiling to create a fun winter atmosphere.
