Christmas Crafts Snowman

One thing that I love about Christmas crafts is the fact that you can find a lot of the materials that you need already in your home. You don’t have spend a lot of money to make a fun craft or gift. Christmas crafts snowman even uses materials that may be on the way out the door and into the garbage.

Materials you will need: empty class condiment bottle with lid, 4-6 pieces of white scrap paper, small piece of orange felt or fabric, 2 juice box straws, a 4″ by 4″ scrap of bright fabric, glitter, 3 buttons, 6″ strip of red satin ribbon, googly eyes, empty film roll canister, scissors, hot glue

1. Before you get started on the Christmas crafts snowman, you will want to make sure that the bottle has been cleaned and dried, and that all the labels are off. If you wash the bottle in warm water, it will help get the rubbery glue off.

2. Take the white scrap paper, roll it up, and cut it into small pieces. You are going to fill the bottle up with these pieces. If you want to give this as a gift, you may want to find some small, white candies to put in the snowman. Fill the bottle until full. You may need to use the eraser end of a pencil to help push the papers down. Fit as much paper into the bottle as you can to make it appear white.

3. As part of the hat, you will be using the bottle lid. If the lid isn’t black, paint it with tempera paint, or use a permanent black marker, like a Sharpie to color it. Next, glue the empty film canister to the bottle lid. You can also glue a strip of the red ribbon around the hat brim to give it some pizazz. Make sure to get rid of any excess ribbon.

4. For the body you will first glue on the googly eyes (or you can use tiny, black pom poms). You can cut out a small, triangular piece of orange fabric for the nose. Glue it on. Next, you will glue on the three buttons on the snowman’s belly. Use some of the red felt strip to create a scarf. It looks really cut if you fringe the ends with scissors. Wrap the scarf in place and glue down.

5. Next, you will take the 4″ x 4″ fabric scraps to make mittens. Fold the pieces in half, and cut out oval shaped mittens. Using other scraps, you can stuff the mittens to give it a 3D feel. Once they are stuffed, fold it over and glue, but make sure to leave a small opening at the base of the mittens . Using some extra fabric or cotton balls or batting, you can line the mittens’ edges. Glue.

6. For the arms, you will use the juice box bendable straws. You will want to cut them to length, making sure the bend area is for the elbows. At the end of the straw where you are going to attach it to the bottle, cut a few small slits so it can be spread out and glued to the bottle. Before gluing it to the bottle, you will want to attach the mittens (where you left a small opening).

7. For finishing touches, you can add some glitter or a small mistletoe to the top hat. You can also get a fun look by carefully filling in the button holes with glitter. Adding some glitter to the scarf and other fabric areas give a nice look too.

Hopefully, you enjoy making Christmas crafts snowman. It is a fun project that you can create for a display or a gift.
